The ultramodern world of Jonas Wagnell mixes emotion, romance, and inherent beauty with the simplicity and soulful essence of the designer's Swedish heritage.
Born in 1973, Wagell is an alumnus of Parsons School of Design in New York and the prestigious Konstfack University College of Arts and Crafts in Stockholm. His education spans multiple disciplines, including graphics, typology and architecture.
In 2008, Wagell launched the JWDA, a studio focused on crafting items that integrate into everyday life rather than being purely artistic objects. Using intuitive experimentation to form distinctive shapes that evoke emotion and affection, Wagell's creations are a testament to his contemporary eye and devotion to the art of storytelling through design.
At the outset of his career, Wagnell earned recognition from Wallpaper Magazine as one of the "world's 50 hottest young architects" and has since collaborated with brands such as Menu, Muuto, and Tacchini in Italy.
His most notable collection, the Julep series, elicits a sense of playfulness that combines fine craftsmanship with architectural volumes and sculptural proportions. Guided by a minimal aesthetic, the pared-back range features clean lines for a contemporary look and feel. What's more, it embraces enveloping shapes to offer indulgent comfort and relaxation, reminiscent of a recliner chair.
Our eponymous Jonas Swivel collection upholds this philosophy by paying tribute to Wagnell's design expression. Exploring nuances of the 1950s and drawing inspiration from the avant-garde of the era, our selection of chairs strikes a balance between functional form, simplistic silhouettes and unpretentious sophistication.
Characterised by Wagnell's curious spirit and study of mid-century furnishings, our line is handcrafted with exceptional softness and structural dimensions that embody Wagnell's classic approach to furniture-making. Available in an array of tones, each snuggle chair holds a distinct mood that is certain to be a stylish focal point in any space.
